Search Engine Optimization

What is Search Engine Optimization?

SEO can be explained as internet advertising, like in the phone book. The same principle that business owners use in the phonebook ( be the first seen on the page) is prevalent in SEO as well.

SEO is the process of submitting your site to the search engines for better placement. Our goal is to get you the highest placement possible. With the attention span of the average internet browser being 30 seconds (at most) its not surprising that most people do not get past the first results page. That is why SEO is important to do if you want your site to get noticed and have more visitors.

What do I need to know about SEO?

Here are some key pieces of information that you should know before acquiring SEO for your website:

Results for SEO are never guaranteed, and you should be cautious of anyone or company claiming that they can be. The process of SEO is something that has to be done on a regular basis and is not an exact science. Your results can vary greatly depending on the number of websites with similar content, a user’s geographical location and their previous relevant searches.

Search engine placement does not happen immediately. Your website needs to be up and running for at least a month or more to even be indexed by the search engines. Although, during the SEO process a request is submitted for the search engine to look at your site- it doesn’t mean they will do it right away.

You can help the SEO process. By continuously thinking of keywords or terms that you think someone would type in if they were looking for your website, you can help us to increase the possibility that people will find you online. Even though we add all of the obvious key words and descriptions to the site, there may search terms or phrases that we are not familiar with, but your customers would be.

You may get different search results from someone else, even if you search using the same word or phrase. In our technology savvy world, search engines have gotten pretty sophisticated and can track where you are, what you search for on a regular basis and websites that you visit often. Based on all of that information, the search engines predicts what it thinks will be the most relevant results for you.

How Much does it cost?

The cost of SEO varies depending on a couple of factors:

  1. How the site is designed. If your website has already been created by another design company, it may need additional fine tuning to make it search engine friendly.
    For example:
    * The amount of keywords may not be enough to stand up to the competition out there so we would need to spend some time rewording the content.
    * The layout of the site may not be coherent enough for the search engines to understand where to send people on the site for what they are searching for, we would make any adjustments to compensate for this.
  2. The amount of other sites doing or selling what you are. With SEO you are basically competing with every other similar site out there to get on top of the pile. So if there are a lot of people with similar sites to yours, a bit more work is involved in getting the best possible search engine placement.

In general SEO should be done an initial time and then done again either monthly or
bi-monthly. The first SEO done to a site takes approximately 5 hours to do. Each additional time takes roughly 2-2 1/2 hours.
